MOTION
Local Government needs to do more in dealing with the fallout of COVID-19. The pandemic is placing unprecedented pressure on Council’s budget, seeing it go backwards tens of millions of dollars. This motion proposes sensible measures to reduce expenditure of at least $10 million, whilst also cutting rates and ensuring that vital infrastructure projects can proceed.
I would like to see Council insist all staff employed in non critical roles to take all available annual leave asap. Additionally all senior executive staff to take a 20% salary, bonus and conditions cut starting immediately and not to be reinstated for the balance of 2020.
Obviously non critical capital expenditure be put on hold until income & costs return to more normal anticipated expectations. All PR and Advertising & Promotion expenditure (if any) be curtailed for balance of 2020.
Rates to only increase for next 5 years at 50% of annual CPI.
Thank you Phil your comments are very much appreciated and make a lot of sense. Be assured we will keep pushing.
We have to all take a hit to our income and expenses, the council is no different.
It would appear that the management structure is top heavy and that in normal business this would not be tolerated.
Infrastructure can be put on hold if not urgent..
Executive management should be able to cut costs by by more than 2%
Thank you Geoff your comments are very much appreciated. Be assured we will keep pushing and hard.

Good ideas…the green half wits running the council are a disgrace…they should not be raising rates with such hardship going on…these green fools are just confirming how inept they are…the greens are on a single mission to take us back to the middle ages…bugger them, time for the rational pragmatists and anyone with common sense to fight back against these morons. So what does “green” stand for?

My wife and I fully support your sensible budget approach to the COVID19 crisis.
Maybe we should consider an opportunity for the community to be afforded a vote on the issue. We will not hold our breath when it comes to the Mayor making sensible decisions when it comes to budgets. We were promised rate relief if we amalgamated the 3 local councils but all we have had are increases and more to come.
Thank you John your comment is very much appreciated. Be assured we will keep pushing hard.
I agree with proposals A to F and support the motion totally.
Council should lead by example, or were we sold a pup when amalgamation took place and we were told this would lead to greater efficiencies as well as reduction of expenses.
Thank you Leon your comment is very much appreciated. Be assured we will keep pushing hard.
AS a rate payer, I applaud your conviction to reviewing Northern Beaches Council Budget in view of the covid-19 pandemic.
Any savings in budgetting, particularly noted aprox. $14M+ for this period, would offer the rate payers great relief
I totally support, 100%, the motion by councillors Amon, Walton and Daley regarding cost cutting measures A through F. If implemented it will reduce the amount spent by Council on payments to councillors during the covid-19 pandemic. They should not be exempt from cuts to their personal income that rate payers are currently experiencing. Further, ratepayers will struggle to pay council rates during this time. This will also be a good opportunity to reduce the number of councillors. Councillors should be held to account for any and all spending.

I totally agree with the recommendations. Huge amount of businessmen/professionals/and sportspeople have already sacrificed much of their earnings, yet by comparison public servants (at all 3 tiers) have pitifully only sacrificed future wage increase demands.
You have my full support to implement the savings you propose!
Thank you Leon your comment is very much appreciated. Be assured we will keep pushing hard.
Hi Pat, I agree with what you have stated a – f.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! YOU HAVE MY 110% SUPPORT! THANK YOU!
SHAME AND SADLY WE ARE NOT DOING THIS AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT?
